At Routta, we know that you care about how your personal information is used and shared. We've written this Privacy Policy in plain English to explain what data we collect when you use the Routta mobile app to book or provide rides, why we collect it, and how we keep it safe.
1. Information We Collect
To connect commuters with transporters and make sure everyone has a safe trip, we need to collect a few specific pieces of information.
Information you give us directly
- Account details: When you sign up, we ask for your name, phone number, email address, and a profile picture. Transporters also provide vehicle details and identification documents required by Nigeria Transport regulations.
- Payment info: To process fares, we collect your payment card details or mobile money info. (Note: We use secure third-party payment processors, so we don't store your actual card numbers on our servers).
Information we collect automatically
- Location Data: Because we are a ride-hailing service, we need to know where you are. We track the transporter's location constantly while they are online, and the commuter's location from the time a ride is requested until it ends.
- Device Information: We log basic details about the phone you use (like the model and operating system) to help fix bugs and improve the app's performance.
2. How We Use Your Information
We only use your data to make your Routta experience better and safer. Specifically, we use it to:
- Match commuters with the nearest available transporters.
- Calculate trip fares and process payments.
- Track rides in real-time to ensure the safety of both users and transporters.
- Provide customer support if you leave something in a car or have a dispute.
- Send you important updates, like receipts, safety alerts, or changes to our policies.
3. Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell your personal data to anyone. We only share it when absolutely necessary:
- Between commuters and transporters: When a ride is booked, we share the commuter's first name and pickup location with the transporter. We share the transporter's name, photo, vehicle details, and current location with the commuter. We do not share your actual phone numbers; calls made through the app are masked.
- Service Providers: We share data with companies that help us run our business, such as secure payment processors, background check providers, and cloud hosting services.
- Law Enforcement: If required by Nigerian law, or if there is an emergency involving immediate danger, we may share information with the Nigerian Police Force or the Federal Road Safety Corps.
4. Your Rights and Choices
You have control over your personal information. You can:
- Access and Update: Change your profile details (like your email or phone number) anytime inside the Routta app settings.
- Location Sharing: Commuters can turn off location sharing in their phone settings, but you will need to manually type in your pickup address. (Transporters must have location on to receive ride requests).
- Delete Your Account: You can ask us to permanently delete your account and personal data through the app. We will process this within 30 days, though we may keep certain records (like past trip receipts) if required by tax or legal regulations.
5. How We Keep Your Data Safe
We take security seriously. We use industry-standard encryption to protect your data both when it's being sent from your phone to our servers, and while it's stored. However, no system is 100% hack-proof, so we encourage you to use a strong password for your Routta account and keep your phone locked.
6. Changes to This Policy
From time to time, we might update this policy to reflect new features or legal requirements. If we make major changes, we will let you know by sending an email or an alert in the Routta app before the changes take effect.
7. Contact Us
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, we are here to help.
- Email: hello@routta.app
- Address: No 5, Odekunle Street, Off Major Salawu, Agbowo UI, Ibadan, Oyo State.
8. Our Website Waitlist
Before the Routta app launches, you can join our waitlist on routta.app. This section explains what we collect when you do, and what we use it for.
What we collect
- Your name, email address, and phone or WhatsApp number.
- Whether you are joining as a commuter, a transporter, or a Premium Business, and your city.
- Which page and button on our website you joined from.
What we use it for
- To add you to the waitlist and send you a confirmation email.
- To tell you when Routta launches, or launches in your city, by email, SMS, or WhatsApp.
- To understand where demand is, so we can plan which cities and services to launch first.
We do not use your waitlist details for anything else, and we do not sell them. Joining the waitlist does not create a Routta account; you will sign up in the app when it launches. Each email address can join the waitlist once.
Who we share it with
Your waitlist details are stored with Resend, the email service we use to keep the waitlist and send waitlist emails. They only process the data on our behalf.
Leaving the waitlist
Every waitlist email has an unsubscribe link. Using it removes you and your details from the waitlist completely, and we will not email you again. You can also ask us to remove you by emailing hello@routta.app. Your browser also keeps a small note that you have joined, so the website can show that you are already on the list; it contains no personal details.
Our promise to you: Your trust is our most valuable asset. We are committed to protecting your privacy every time you ride with us.
